New research shows AI is demanding huge amount of energy to operate, by 2026 data centres could be using a total of 1,000 terawatts hours annually to mange demand, that is the equivalent of Japan, according to the International Energy Agency. A generative AI system could be running 33x more energy than a standard system and demand is forevast to see usage dooubling in 4 years.
